She nodded.

Just once.

But it was enough.

And with that—

Everything changed.

They walked out of the classroom.

One after the other.

Not together.

Not side by side.

But something between them—

Was no longer broken.

Netrabhan stepped into the corridor.

And for the first time since yesterday—

He felt… light.

The irritation?

Gone.

The frustration?

Gone.

Replaced by something else.

Relief.

A small smile almost made its way to his lips.

Meanwhile—

Kashvi walked ahead quietly.

Trying to stay normal.

Trying to ignore the way her heart was still racing.

As if nothing had happened.

But everything had.

Across the corridor—

Eshaan and Ishvik stood watching.

And of course—

They noticed.

Eshaan narrowed his eyes slightly.

Confused.

“Isse kya hua hai…?”

He glanced at Ishvik.

“Subah se ekdum serious, irritated tha…”

Then looked back at Netrabhan—

Who now looked completely different.

“Aur abhi dekho…”

A pause.

“Aise khush hai jaise koi lottery lag gayi ho.”

Ishvik nodded immediately.

“Haina…”

His expression turning suspicious.

“Kuch toh gadbad hai.”

A dramatic pause.

“Nazar rakhni padegi.”

Eshaan nodded in agreement.

“Sahi keh raha hai.”

Ishvik leaned slightly closer.

Lowering his voice like he was revealing some big secret.

“Kahin yeh humare peeth peeche hume dhoka toh nahi de raha na…?”

Eshaan’s eyes widened instantly.

“Ab bohot ho gaya, Ishvik.”

He whispered harshly.

“Itna bhi nahi…”

Then added quickly—

“Agar usne sun liya na…”

“Hum dono pit jayenge.”

Ishvik straightened immediately.

“Haan woh bhi hai…”

Both of them went silent.

But their eyes—

Still followed Netrabhan.

Because something had definitely changed.

And they were going to find out—

What.

••••••

They all were sitting in the garden.

Busy.

Not with talking—

But with work.

Election work that was still left.

Papers scattered.

Pens moving.

Discussions happening in between.

Finally—

After a while—

Netrabhan leaned back slightly.

“Hogaya…”

Everyone looked up.

“Ab sab kuch complete hai…”

He said.

“Bas staff room mein ek kaam hai…”

“I’ll just go and finish that.”

Before he could even stand—

Ishvik, Eshaan, Saanvi, and Aarohi spoke together—

“Haan chalo chalo, hum bhi chalte hain… help kar dete hain.”

Netrabhan immediately shook his head.

“Arey nahi…”

“Tum log thoda rest karo.”

“Yahin garden mein reh ke…”

“Subah se kaam kar rahe ho.”

Then—

His gaze shifted.

To Kashvi...

“Kashvi hai na…”

“Woh chalengi mere saath.”

A slight pause.

“Chalengi na?”

Before Kashvi could even respond—

Saanvi spoke.

“Excuse me?”

“If we’ve been working since morning…”

“Toh Kashvi bhi toh kar rahi hai na?”

“Usse kaise bol rahe ho aap chalne ko, topper saheb?”

Aarohi joined instantly—

“Haan bolo bolo…”

Eshaan and Ishvik nodded like judges.

“Baat toh sahi keh rahi hai.”

All eyes—

On Netrabhan.

But he didn’t hesitate.

“Kaam karo.”

He said calmly.

“Idhar hi reh ke.”

Then looking at Kashvi again—

“Aap chaliye.”

That was it.

Kashvi stood up quietly.

And started walking with him.

But before leaving—

She turned.

And saw them.

All four of them—

Looking at her.

With teasing smiles.

Smirks.

Raised eyebrows.

Her eyes widened slightly.

Then she quickly looked away—

And left.

Both of them walked towards the staff room side.

Silence.

Not awkward.

Not heavy.

Just… new.

After a few steps—

Kashvi spoke.

“Aapka favourite colour kya hai?”

Netrabhan glanced at her.

“Koi favourite colour nahi hai…”

Then asked—

“Aapka?”

Kashvi replied softly—

“White.”

A small pause.

“Tab toh mera bhi favourite colour white hai.”

Kashvi looked at him.

Confused.

“Kyu?”

Netrabhan answered simply—

“Kyu ki woh aapka favourite colour hai…”

“Isliye mera bhi.”

And just like that—

He moved ahead.

Leaving Kashvi behind.

Standing still.

Her brows furrowed slightly.

And she whispered to herself—

“Mujhe aisa kyu lag raha hai jaise yeh abhi flirt karke gaye…”

Before she could think further—

He turned.

“Wahin khade rehna hai kya…”

A slight pause.

“Aarzoo?”

Her heart skipped.

Again.

And this time—

She didn’t even try to understand why.

She just walked towards him.

They reached the staff room.

The corridor was quiet.

Almost empty.

Netrabhan pushed the door open.

Both of them stepped inside.

Kashvi looked around briefly.

Then at him.

“Boliye…”

“Kaunsa kaam hai?”

“Jaldi karte hain aur chalte hain.”

Netrabhan didn’t move.

Didn’t say anything.

He just stood there.

Looking at her.

Then slowly—

He shook his head.

In negative.

Kashvi frowned.

Confused.

“Kya matlab?”

A pause.

Netrabhan finally spoke—

“Koi kaam nahi hai.”

Silence.

For a second—

Kashvi just stared at him.

Processing.

Then her eyes widened.

“Aapne jhoot bola?”

“Bahar?”

Her voice filled with disbelief.

“Aur agar koi kaam nahi hai…”

“Toh hum yahan kya karne aaye hain?”

Netrabhan took a step closer.

Calm.

Unbothered.

“Aapse baat karne.”

Simple.

Direct.

As if it was obvious.

Kashvi blinked.

“Baat toh wahaan bhi kar sakte the…”

Netrabhan shook his head.

“Nahi.”

“Wahaan sab the.”

Another step closer.

“Yahan…”

A slight pause.

“Sirf aap hain.”

Her breath hitched.

The silence in the room—

Suddenly felt louder.

Because this time—

He didn’t chase her.

Didn’t force her.

He just stood there.

Waiting.

For her to stay.

•••

Kashvi looked at him for a moment.

Then said simply—

“Ohh… baat karni thi.”

As if it was nothing.

She walked ahead—

And sat down on the bench kept inside the staff room.

Adjusting herself...

She looked at him.

“Baat kariye…”

“Main sunn rahi hoon.”

Netrabhan just stood there.

Looking at her.

Like he didn’t expect it to be this…

simple.

A pause.

Then he said—

“Lekin main kya bolun?”

“Aap boliye.”

Kashvi raised her brows slightly.

“Baat kise karni thi?”

“Aaya kaun tha?”

Her tone calm.

Almost teasing.

“Aur Mujhe conversation karna toh bilkul bhi nahi aata…”

“So aap hi boliye.”

Netrabhan let out a small breath.

For a second—

He didn’t speak.

Because suddenly—

All the things he wanted to say—

Felt… complicated.

How do you ask someone—

Why they matter?

How do you say—

That their silence bothered you more than it should?

How do you explain—

Aarzoo…

His eyes stayed on her.

And Kashvi—

She noticed.

The way he was looking at her.

Again.

That same intensity.

That same silence—

That somehow said more than words.

“Kya dekh rahe hain aap…?”

She asked softly.

Breaking it.

Netrabhan blinked.

“Yahi…”

“Aapko.”

A direct answer.

No hesitation.

Kashvi looked away instantly.

Her fingers tightening in her lap.

“Baat karni thi na…”

She murmured.

Netrabhan stepped closer.

“Kar raha hoon.”

A pause.

“Aap sun nahi rahi.”

Her heartbeat quickened again.

Because this—

This didn’t feel like a normal conversation.

At all.

•••

The silence stretched again.

Soft.

But not empty.

Kashvi took a small breath.

Trying to make things… normal.

“Acha…”

She said quietly.

“Chaliye… aap apne baare mein batayiye.”

A slight pause.

“Ghar mein kaun kaun hai?”

Netrabhan looked at her.

As if the question was simple—

But the answer wasn’t.

“Mere baare mein…”

He started.

“Kuch special nahi hai.”

Kashvi’s eyes flickered slightly.

“Aapko kya pata…”

She thought silently.

“Kitne special ho aap…”

But she didn’t say it.

Didn’t even let it show.

Meanwhile—

Netrabhan continued.

“Aur mere ghar mein…”

“Maa, papa…”

“Aur meri choti behen.”

A brief pause.

“Baaki family members Rajasthan mein rehte hain.”

Kashvi nodded slowly.

Listening carefully.

“Aur aapki behen ka naam kya hai?”

A small question.

But genuine.

Netrabhan replied—

“Roohi.”

Kashvi’s lips curved slightly.

“Acha naam hai…”

Then she asked—

“Yahin school mein padti hai kya?”

Netrabhan nodded.

“Haan."

A small silence followed again.

But this time—

It felt easier.

Lighter.

Like they were slowly—

Getting used to this.

To talking.

To each other.

••••

Kashvi looked at him again.

“Then… aur kuch boliye.”

Netrabhan tilted his head slightly.

“Aur kya bolun…”

A small pause.

“Aarzoo…”

“Aap hi boliye.”

The word—

Again.

This time—

Kashvi didn’t ignore it.

She looked straight at him.

“Aap mujhe ‘Aarzoo’ kyu bula rahe hain?”

A slight pause.

“Mera naam toh Kashvi hai."

Silence.

For a moment—

Netrabhan didn’t answer.

As if he was deciding—

Whether to say it or not.

Then finally—

He spoke.

“Mujhe pata hai…”

“Aapka naam Kashvi hai.”

A step closer.

“Par jab bhi main aapko dekhta hoon…”

“That’s the word that comes to my heart, mind.”

“Aarzoo.”

Kashvi’s breath slowed.

Her eyes fixed on him.

He continued—

“Pata nahi kab se…”

“Par har baar…”

“Bas wahi.”

A slight pause.

“Aarzoo ka matlab pata hai aapko?”

Kashvi didn’t answer.

She just looked at him.

And he continued—

“Matlab hota hai…”

“A wish.”

“A longing.”

“Something you want…”

A breath.

“Par zaroori nahi ke woh mil hi jaaye.”

Silence filled the room.

Heavy.

Deep.

Kashvi’s fingers tightened in her lap.

Because this time—

She understood.

Not just the word.

But the way he said it.

The way he looked at her.

The meaning behind it.

And maybe—

That scared her more.

°°°°°°°

Silence.

Heavy.

Unspoken.

Kashvi looked at him—

But this time—

Not with confusion.

With understanding.

And that—

Changed everything.

Her eyes flickered.

As if something inside her—

Shifted.

“Aarzoo…”

She repeated softly.

Almost like testing the word.

Then she let out a small breath.

“Aapko nahi bolna chahiye aisa…”

Her voice was low.

Not angry.

Not loud.

Just… careful.

Netrabhan frowned slightly.

“Kyu?”

A simple question.

But Kashvi didn’t answer immediately.

She looked away.

Because looking at him—

Made it harder.

“Isliye…”

She started.

“Kyuki har ‘Aarzoo’ poori nahi hoti.”

A pause.

“Aur jab nahi hoti na…”

“Hurt karti hai, dard hoti hai.”

Her voice almost broke—

But she controlled it.

Netrabhan didn’t look away.

Not even for a second.

“Toh kya hua?”

His reply came instantly.

“Agar hurt karti hai…”

“Toh iska matlab yeh thodi na hai ki usse chhod diya jaaye.”

A step closer.

“Aarzoo ko chhod dete hain kya sirf isliye…”

“Kyuki woh mushkil hai?”

Kashvi looked at him again.

This time—

There was conflict.

“Har cheez mil nahi sakti…”

She said quietly.

Netrabhan shook his head.

“Par try toh kar sakte hain.”

“Aur agar woh important ho…”

“Bahut zyada important…”

A pause.

“Toh phir chhodte nahi hain.”

Silence again.

But now—

It wasn’t calm.

It was intense.

Because this wasn’t just a conversation anymore.

It was something else.

Something neither of them were fully saying—

But both were understanding.

Kashvi’s eyes dropped.

Because staying here—

Listening to him—

Was becoming dangerous.

For her.

°°°°°°°

Kashvi looked at him.

Trying to ease the intensity.

Or maybe—

Hide from it.

“Aarohi bolti hai…”

She started casually.

“Ki aap kisi ladki se baat nahi karte…”

A slight pause.

“Sach mein?”

Netrabhan didn’t hesitate.

“Haan.”

Simple.

Straight.

Kashvi raised her brows slightly.

“Lekin…”

“Lagta toh kuch aur hi hai.”

A hint of a smile.

Almost teasing.

Netrabhan looked at her—

Carefully..

Then said—

“Main sabse baat nahi karta.”

A pause.

“Par…”

His gaze didn’t leave her.

“Kuch log alag hote hain.”

Silence..

Kashvi’s heartbeat quickened again.

“Matlab…?”

She asked softly.

Netrabhan stepped a little closer.

“Matlab…”

“Aap.”

That one word—

Was enough.

No explanation needed.

No clarification.

Because everything else—

Was already in his eyes.

Kashvi looked at him—

Speechless.

Because this time—

He didn’t hide it.

Not even a little.

°°°°

Kashvi crossed her arms slightly.

Still looking at him—

But now with a hint of challenge.

“Batao bhala…”

“Aarohi bol rahi thi kuch aur…”

“Aur yahan ho raha hai kuch aur.”

A small pause.

“Idhar mere se baat aise kar rahe hain…”

“Jaise expert ho ladkiyon se baat karne mein.”

A teasing tone.

But her heartbeat—

Still not normal.

Netrabhan didn’t react much.

He just looked at her.

Then said calmly—

“Ladkiyon se nahi…”

A slight pause.

“Sirf aur sirf aap se.”

Kashvi’s expression changed instantly.

The teasing—

Gone.

Replaced by something else.

“Kyun?”

A step closer.

“Kisliye?”

Her voice softer now.

Almost careful.

Netrabhan didn’t look away.

Not this time.

“Pata nahi…”

Honest.

But incomplete.

A pause.

Then he added—

“Bas…”

“Aap se baat karne ka mann karta hai.”

Silence.

Simple words.

But the way he said them—

Made them heavy.

Real.

“Bina reason ke…”

“Bina soche…”

“Aur shayad…”

A slight pause.

“Rok bhi nahi pata.”

Kashvi looked at him—

Completely still.

Because this—

Wasn’t teasing anymore.

This was something else.

Something real.

And maybe—

That’s what scared her the most.

°°°°°°

Kashvi looked at him.

Still trying to keep things normal.

Still trying—

To not let it go too far.

“Kuch zyada hi nahi ho raha hai…?”

She said.

“Ek din baat na karne par itna kuch?”

Netrabhan didn’t even think before

replying—

“Ohh…”

Aapne jo kiya…”

“Aap hi par try karke bataun na?”

“Baat na karke?”

Kashvi’s eyes widened instantly.

“Suchna bhi mat aisa karne ka…”

Her response came quickly.

Almost defensive.

Netrabhan noticed.

Of course he did.

A slight smirk appeared.

“Kyu?”

“Kya hua?”

“Ab boliye…”

He stepped closer.

“Ek din main baat na karun…”

“Toh aapko farak nahi padega?”

Silence.

Kashvi didn’t answer.

Because she couldn’t.

Her eyes dropped.

And that—

That was enough.

For him to understand.

And that brings us to the end of this chapter… 🤍

Things are slowly changing between them—

from silence… to conversations… to something they’re both trying not to name 👀
